FINISH

Join your peers in the sanding room and watch each step of the critical finishing process; from heavy grits to super-fine, and get a chance to work on your own board.

What will be covered:

  • Tools and safety

  • Effective sanding room set up / ventilation

  • How to do a smooth hot coat

  • How to prepare the board for gloss

  • How to sand a gloss coat

  • Using an angle grinder to remove the bead

  • Hand-sanding rails, nose and tail

  • Paul’s unique technique for achieving a perfect, straight line matte finish

  • Drilling the box

What to bring:

  • 3m dust mask

  • Close-toed shoes

  • Pants

  • Long sleeved shirt

  • Safety glasses

  • Notebook / Pen

 

How this segment of the course will be run:

  • Just as with the Shape and Glass segments of the course, your Finish day will be staggered; each board will again be prepped by Paul and ready before you arrive.

  • You will have the chance to see and participate in some of the critical steps of finishing your board.

  • Learn to achieve a technically perfect smooth and hydrodynamic finish.

  • After the day is complete, Paul will give your boards a final finish before they’re ready for pick up and potential surf on Day 4!
